Beckman wins 1st PCL match, routs University 13-6

The Beckman Patriot boys varsity water polo team bounced back after two stinging and narrow losses to Woodbridge and Northwood to win their first PCL game, a 13-6 routing of University at home.

Senior Travis Ruoff got the Patriots off to a quick 3-0 start with three goals in the first period and Beckman never looked back. Offensively, Ruoff had four goals, Seniors Baylor Reynoso and Chase Himler chipped in with two each, and adding goals were Seniors Aviv Zohman and Travis Spaan, Junior Trevor Grubb and Sophomores AJ Marsh and Eli Schwarz. Zohman also drew four fouls with Reynoso and Himler drawing two each.

Defensively, Senior goalie Matt Tran was again superb and in control with nine saves and two steals. Zohman managed four steals and Marsh had two.

Head Coach Duje Grubisic was pleased with his team’s progress. “It was good to get our first league win. We played better with a lot less turnovers than in previous games. In our upcoming games we have to convert our opportunities better, especially on Tuesday when we have CDM visiting.”

Next up: The Patriots face PCL Division rival Corona Del Mar at home on October 10, then travel to face Irvine on October 12.
